Although it is a ccTLD, .ac is offered by some domain-brokers as a domain for the city of Aachen in Germany, using the analogy to the automotive license plate designation ("AC") for the city. The University of Kurdistan - Hawler also registers under this top-level domain, using it as a mnemonic for ‘academic’.
It appears that the domain name registry of Sin Maarten have seized The Pirate Bay's .SX domain name. The domain name has been relocated to .AC ccTLD.
According to TorrentFreak.com, following pressure applied by Dutch anti-piracy group BREIN, The Pirate Bay's .SX domain name has been seized,forcing the torrent site to move to a new address on Ascension Island's .AC ccTLD.
However, The Pirate Bay wants to relocate to a much safer place in the near future, probably to the Peruvian .PE ccTLD.
This is the fourth time The Pirate Bay has relocated. In April,2013, The Pirate Bay moved to Greenland-based domain,than to Iceland and eventually switched to .SX domain.
“The AC domain is directly connected to the UK, so it’s just a quick stop there,” a Pirate Bay insider told TorrentFreak. The next destination for the infamous torrent site is the Peruvian .PE registry, which will become its fifth domain name in 2013. Once based in Sweden but fearing seizure by Swedish authorities, the site moved to Greenland, then to Iceland, before acquiring its .SX domain.
