Mitch Albom。
最近看完的《再給我一天》(For One More Day),更是我最喜歡的一部。
Mitch Albom

INJURY-STRUCK UNITED GIVE SMITH REWARD FOR LOYALTY
When 15 Barclays Premiership clubs came calling in January, it would have been easy for Alan Smith to have turned his back on Manchester United. Out of luck, out of favour and with at least four forwards ahead of him in the pecking order, Smith could have jumped ship, safe in the knowledge that he would be guaranteed regular first-team football anywhere else.
That he opted to stay, snubbing offers to move either on loan or permanently, invited suggestions that he was happy just to collect his substantial pay packet and ease his way back to fitness after a career-threatening injury. But that was to do a great disservice to one of the more ambitious and honest characters in English football.
Smith’s recovery from the broken leg and dislocated ankle he suffered during an FA Cup tie against Liverpool in February last year has been almost as torturous as the injury, but having seen Roy Keane and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer overcome similar problems to establish themselves as legendary figures at the club, the forward believed that he could tread the same path.
Throughout his rehabilitation, which included an ill-fated 43-day comeback between the end of September and beginning of November, Smith has used Keane and Solskjaer as inspiration, which helps to explain why he has never entertained the thought of leaving as, against all odds, he has become central to Sir Alex Ferguson’s plans.
“There has been a lot of speculation, but I am going nowhere,” Smith, whose contract runs until the summer of 2009, said. “I could have gone out on loan, but I know I am good enough to play here. I have always believed that. I have never thought it wasn’t going to happen. They [the club] give players time to recover from injury.
“Ole is one, Roy Keane is another. They were players who had career-threatening injuries as well and I have seen what they have achieved. Hopefully I can go on to achieve as much as them.”
Few, the player included, expected Smith to play much of a role this season, but with Henrik Larsson having returned to Sweden and Louis Saha and Solskjaer injured and unavailable until the Premiership match at home against Blackburn Rovers on March 31, the forward will be thrust into action as United continue their pursuit of a repeat of the historic treble success of 1998-99.
Having made a brief substitute’s appearance in the Champions League first knock-out round, second leg against Lille last week, Smith started his first game for more than four months on Tuesday, albeit in a charity match, and is likely to feature at home against Bolton Wanderers in the Premiership on Saturday and in the FA Cup sixth-round replay against Middlesbrough at Old Trafford two days later.
“I hope people see the real Alan Smith now I am back up front,” he said. “I know I have worked harder than ever to get fit and I have done that because I want to be part of a team that is winning stuff.
“We have a big month coming up and I am confident about getting a place in the side between now and the end of the season. If I had gone on loan and Ole and Louis had been injured and Henrik had gone, we would have been down to one striker and there would have been nothing worse for me than to leave and be somewhere else when this club was short on strikers. I hope it is my time now.”

SMITH'S A FRONTLINE WARRIOR
ALAN SMITH has vowed to fill the gap left by Henrik Larsson and power Manchester United to glory.
Smith is needed more than ever by boss Alex Ferguson after a year in the wilderness following his horror ankle break.
Larsson has gone back to Sweden, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Louis Saha will not be fit until the end of the season and Wayne Rooney is struggling for goals.
It gives Smith a big chance to finally make a name for himself at Old Trafford — and he is ready to take it.
The 26-year-old said: “It is my time now. I hope people see the real Alan Smith now I am back up front.
“I have worked harder than ever to get fit because I want to be part of a team that is winning stuff.
“The only way you do that is to apply yourself in training and in the gym. Ever since I suffered the injury, I knew my first aim was to get fit.
“My second aim was to get back into the team. The third is to win more international honours.
“I am confident about getting a place in the side between now and the end of the season.
“If you get a chance at this club, you have to take it with both hands. That is up to me now. I have worked hard for it. I have trained well.
“Physically, I am probably fitter than I have ever been.
“When my chance comes, I have to take it.”
Smith was given the opportunity to go on loan to any number of clubs in the New Year as part of his rehabilitation.
But he feared he would be gone and forgotten and was determined to stay put at United and do his utmost to get back in the team.
Smith added: “I could have gone out on loan but I know I am good enough to play here.
"The manager thought it was in the best interests of him and me but if I had gone on loan and Ole and Louis had been injured with Henrik gone, we would have been down to only one recognised striker.
“There would have been nothing worse for me than to leave and be somewhere else when this club was short on strikers.
“I don’t want to be on loan and miss the games coming up when I feel I can be an important part of this squad.
“I have always said I am confident in myself and the manager respects that.
“I feel I can get back to what I was. That is what the manager wanted.
“His aim for me was to get me back to the form I was in before I got injured.”
If Smith had taken advantage of a loan move, a permanent deal could have followed.
After all, with everyone fit he is not a first-team regular — at least that is what some people think. Smith is not one of them.
He said: “I am not leaving. It is as simple as that. There has been a lot of speculation but I am going nowhere.”
United have 17 matches standing between them and a Treble.
There are two games in three days coming up with Bolton at home in the Premiership this Saturday and Middlesbrough the visitors in an FA Cup quarter-final replay on Monday.
Smith said: “It would be nice to win trophies this season.
“It is still a long way off. There is a lot of hard work to do yet but we are prepared to do it.
“It is what I have worked so hard for. I want to be part of that.”
It has been a long road back for Smith, though.
He turned out in a pre-season game at Preston, only to realise he was not quite as fit as he thought.
Two Carling Cup starts at Crewe and Southend a couple of months later only brought fresh concerns.
Smith eventually agreed to go on a personal fitness programme, which is now starting to pay dividends.
He admitted: “After the two cup games, I knew I was still miles off.
“But it was a bonus really because it allowed me to focus on what rehabilitation work I needed to do to get fit.
“I do believe I can get back to what I was. That is what the manager is hoping for as well.
“The good thing about this club is it gives players time to recover from long-term injuries.”
