When Telling an old story, it should be very old and antique and ancient, thus it should take place in Ancient Times or even pre-historic, but, of course, there are no record for the pre-historic, so if someone tell one he must either be someone who has just travelled in a time machine or a liar, or even both. Therefore the best time to take place in should be the Ancient Times, which mostly about some inspirative old guys having some great discoveries, some philosophers who were sophiaphile - a word which was made up by combining two Greek words, "sofia" and "philo", which mean "wisdom" and "love" respectively as in "philosopher" - and sophists, and  some silly kings making astonishing dicision and  killed some many others and get himself killed by some others. However, all these people had met their end of their lives, and dead men tell no stories, so many people prefer to tell ersatz old stories about their dear grandmas, who were not yet dead or just died fews days ago.
