Jas 1:19-27 Listening and Doing
But the man who looks instantly into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it— He will be blessed in what he does. (25) What good is it to merely listen but never act out? They might as well not listen at all. For they know what they ought to do to please God but they choose not to do according to His words. That is not wise men do. Now who am I? Am I a foolish man? Or am I wise? Or am I considering myself as wise but in fact I was foolish? Think I'm the last type mentioned. Then the Lord forgives me, I will do what You've told me to—Your people to— be doing the perfect law. First I'll read Your words.
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. (26) That's me. But I seldom talk. I keep my mouth shut so people cannot listen to me. Do I consider myself religious but still offense God by bad mouthing? It is a good idea that I mind my words from my tongue so I don't listen and then forget. My religion is not worthless. It's true and beautiful.
