Book I: Psalm 18
With the merciful you will show yourself merciful. With the perfect man, you will show yourself perfect. With the pure, you will show yourself pure. With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd. (25-26) 慈爱的人,你以慈爱待他;完全的人,你以完全待他。清洁的人,你以清洁待他;乖僻的人,你以弯曲待他。(25-26)
David praised the Lord in his days of distress, and his faith was strengthened through his gratitude for the Lord. Yesterday I had made up my mine to say goodbye to a certain sin in my life by the strength of my Lord. And I felt so good. I quit sins by writing stories, and after they were written down my sins seemed absurd to me. It made quitting easier. I wanted to be like David, who was righteous in the eye of the Lord, who loved him and lifted him because of his kindness. And David reminded us for how the Lord treated the people on earth: with the merciful he will show himself merciful (25); with the perfect he will show himself perfect (25); with the pure he will show himself pure (26); with the crooked he will show himself shrewd (26). I should be careful what I am before the Lord and not to sin, but to pursue his loveliness, so that with me he will show himself lovely. So I shall become strong for him, and he will show himself my strongest fortress.
