My first childhood recollection of Nathan Road would definitely have to be Park Lane.

Back when i was a child, i would from time to time return to Hong Kong for Summer/Christmas vacations.

The most popular shopping destination that my family would take me to is Park Lane - an area which is well known for its diverse range of branded goods. I have fond memories of buying my favourite sneakers there, as well as seeing the most amazing Christmas decorations and lighting on a public street.

As i recall, a CD of Chan Wai Han (¸õ»Rµó) belonging to one of my older cousins, had on it's cover an artwork that was shot in Park Lane.

Still today, a sense of nostalgia overcomes me when walking down this part of Nathan Road. I remember we would begin our activities there and then eventually walk towards the huge department stores like Yue Hwa and Wing On, situated on the Jordan side of Nathan Road for more purchases. Once there the appearance of the road would change, and the skies would be overshadowed by huge glowing neon lights and colourful shop signs above buildings which seemed like massive skyscrapers back then.

After a long day's worth of shopping we would usually end up eating at one of our favourite restaurants nearby. My aunties and uncles would always share accounts of famous restaurant hotspots in the area that they've been too. One such location was Gum Gwoon Building(ª÷«a¤j厦) a place that was frequent visited by the late great  Roman Tam. Chinese diner by day and a bustling nightclub by night, this place was all the rave back in the 70s. Famous for hosting electrifying performers such as the legendary Paula Tsui Siu Fung, the place attracted countless crowds.

Nathan Road will always be in the hearts of every Hong Kong citizen. Being the longest road in Kowloon, it contains so much history and personality, it's very essence seems like an important blood-vein of the city - a point unquestionably worth celebrating after a hundred years!
