1. Soak up the sun at Camps Bay Beach
Of course, the biggest attraction of this area is its eponymous shores, certified as a Blue Flag Beach since 1998. Its wide and mostly flat stretch of pristine white sand is perfect for sunbathing, while its calm sapphire waters have made it a favourite of celebrities and families alike. Of course, it also offers a number of fun activities for sporty travellers, such as beach volleyball and Frisbee games.
2. Ride the surf at Glen Beach
Located just north of the more popular Camps Bay, this white-sand beach is hidden in an enclave of granite boulders, hence the relative lack of crowds on its shores. Yet it's fast becoming a hangout for local surfers for its fantastic surf breaks on its left and right points. However, some of the residents can be quite fiercely territorial at times, so make sure to befriend them first before jumping in the water.
3. Go on a gustatory adventure at its many restaurants
Other than its beaches, Camps Bay is known for the many hip and happening dining establishments that line Victoria Road, one of its main streets. These feature a wide range of cuisines from all around the world. Must-try restaurants include the Codfather Seafood & Sushi, which was awarded the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice award in 2012; and Blues, which has been in operation since 1987.
4. Watch a performance at Theatre on the Bay
Get your dose of culture at this venue, which is owned by Pieter Toerien, one of South Africa's top theatre managers and producers. Here you can enjoy a local staging of a Broadway or West End musical like Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard" or home-grown productions such as the comedy "Defending the Caveman."
5. Stay at Primi Royal
Of course, you shouldn't just pick any Cape Town hotel for a great vacation. Choose to stay at Primi Royal, which won the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2013. Offering only 10 uniquely designed rooms, this boutique hotel offers an atmosphere of exclusivity paired with stunning views of the surrounding areas. This accommodation in Camps Bay is also only 100 m from Camps Bay Beach, making it the perfect base for beach lovers.
