Dear Senator Mitch McConnell,

I am writing this letter to express my thoughts of the epidemic disease in Africa, AIDS. During 2005, it was estimated that 2.3 million people were died of AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. That means a person dies of AIDS every 13.1 second, which also means 6575 people die every day.  Why does AIDS spread so rapidly? Is there anything we can do to prevent or reduce the averages of it?

Today, there are 25.8 million people living with HIV in Sub-Saharan Africa.  For those who are the HIV positive, we can only imagine how hard it is for them to be living in this world with darkness, where hope no longer exists, because they all know that no vaccine has been found for this disease yet and eventually they are all going to be die. Not only the adults suffer from this disease, the innocent children also become the victims of AIDS.  At the end of 2005, there are 2.1 million children born with HIV, and 520,000 died from it.  Some of them living no longer than a year, some are even worst, they died during their mother’s pregnancy.  Many Parents have died and the homeless children are been tortured with HIV and famine on the street everyday. The thing that upset me the most is that the people are selling coffins all around the city of Zimbabwe, they even created a small size coffins for the kids. All the soils were already dug up to prepare for funerals. One of the main reasons that cause these large number of AIDS victim is that people are refusing to use condoms, some of them even think that using a condom is a shame.

Although the National AIDS Co-ordination Program (NACP) was set up since 1987, but surely there are something that the U.S. government can do to help. The U.S. can support Africa by donating appropriate amount of money and sending professional personnel to educate and persuade them to use condoms. The AIDS epidemic can not disappear in a short amount of time; there is no alternative way to fight the AIDS but to defeat it.  That can only be accomplished through education and awareness, and I hope this letter can help to create that awareness.
