It is tragic to think what pride could do.

But it is a major lesson for us. We can easily think more of ourselves than we should.

We can become proud of our gifts, of our service for Christ, or of other areas in our lives.

What did Paul say? "Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought,

but think of yourself with sober judgment..." (Romans 12:3)

Have we often been guilty of the sin of pride? Is that why God can't use us as He wants to?

If so let us confess our sin and seek to be more like what God wants us to be in Christ.

Andrew's words were quite simple, but were spoken with certainty out of his own experience.

Notice they were spoken words. We often think living faithfully for Christ exempts us from personal witnessing,

but both are needed. Why not ask the Lord to give you an opportunity this week to speak a word of witness just like Andrew did?

But each one of us can identify with David's testimony in the first few verses.

Look at the words, 'I waited patiently for the Lord'.

Have you ever had to wait for God to answer your prayer?

It hasn't been easy to wait patiently has it?

Then God turned toward David (actually he had never turned away) and heard

David's cry and delivered him from the circumstances he was in.

These circumstances seemed like a deep pit with a muddy floor into which David was sinking.

Gave you ever felt like that?

They never regretted their part in all of this.

Perhaps the lesson for us is rather similar.

Is there someone you could bring to Jesus so that his/her need may be met?

Are there two or three other friends who could join you in prayer for that one?

Why not form a prayer triplet around your friend?Who knows what the result may be?

You might be very glad you had done so. Try it.

How many times have these verses been used in an induction or ordination service?

They sound so familiar to us but they still contain one of the strongest challenges ever given to a Christian minister.

They could be given however to any Christian worker.

A minister "wears many different hats".

He is a preacher, teacher, manager, counsellor, and sometimes church caretaker.

But his first responsibility is to preach the Word - to make sure that whenever God's people meet,

he has a word for them from the Lord, based on a portion of Scripture.

It is easier to give a nice talk that doesn't bother anyone and sends them away feeling happy.

But is that what God wants those people to hear?
