Recycling in Taipei
Did you know that the city of Taipei has ‘zero landfill, total recycling ‘goal? People have to separate paper, glass and plastic form the rest of their rubbish. Since 2003, they’re had to separate their kitchen waste too. Cooked food scraps are separated for compost. All of this recyclable waste is collected by special trucks which play music so that people know when to put out their recycling. The results are excellent --- the city has reduced its waste by more than half. It’s not difficult to separate waste, is it? I don’t see why we can’t do the same in Hong Kong!

What’s happening in Tokyo?
I’ve found out that the city of Tokyo is also environmentally friendly than we are .In fact, the Japanese are some of the best recyclers in the world. For example, more than eighty percent glass bottles are recycled. In Hong Kong, we recycle less than five percent. People in Japan recycle lots of things--- not just newspapers, plastic and aluminum cans, but things like tyres, cars, fridges and Tvs too. The government has also passed laws to made supermarkets and shops recycle packaging from the things they sell.
