Gold Alloys
Gold is used in jewelry because it can be molded to form any shape. Pure 100 percent gold is soft and rarely used in jewelry making. Gold is alloyed with other metals to improve its strength and malleability. Gold alloys that are commonly used include 18K yellow gold (where K refers to karat or the purity of gold), 18K white gold (also called nickel white gold) and18K palladium white gold. 18K yellow gold combines 75 percent gold with zinc and/or cobalt, silver and copper. It is the most common gold alloy used in jewelry making around the world. 18K white gold is 75 percent gold alloyed with zinc and/or palladium, nickel and copper. White gold jewelry requires rhodium plating since it wears down and deteriorates with extended use. 18K palladium white gold is a combination of 75 percent gold with 25 percent palladium. It is more expensive than white gold and wears down with heavy wear. Other types of gold alloys used in jewelry include green gold (an alloy of gold and silver) and rose gold (an alloy of gold and copper).
Platinum Alloys
Platinum is used in jewelry making for its hypoallergenic properties. It is corrosion and wear-resistant, ductile, malleable and dense. The four platinum alloys commonly used in jewelry making in the United States include Pt950/Ir, Pt950/Ru, Pt900/Ir and Pt950/Co. Pt950/Ir is an alloy of 950 parts of platinum with 50 parts of iridium. Pt950/Ru alloys 950 parts of platinum with 50 parts of ruthenium. Pt900/Ir combines 900 parts of platinum with 100 parts of iridium. Pt950/Co is an alloy of 950 parts of platinum and 50 parts of cobalt.
Silver Alloys
Silver is a shiny white metal that is used to make utensils, tableware and jewelry. It is malleable, ductile and harder than gold. Silver is alloyed with copper to make sterling silver. Sterling silver (7.5 percent copper and 92.5 percent silver) is used to make body jewelry, belt buckles, cuff links, bracelets, necklaces and rings. Other silver alloys used in jewelry include vermeil, Mexican silver, and Britannica silver. Vermeil is an alloy of gold, sterling silver and other metals. Mexican silver is an alloy of 95 percent silver and 5 percent copper, while Britannica silver alloys 95.84 percent silver with 4.16 percent copper.

It can be placed near the table of the bride and groom or smaller ones can be used as center pieces for each table. Likewise, it can accent the gifts table or the guest book area. Its versatility is without a doubt the reason for its popularity.
Creating your own crystal trees is something worth looking into. Though many offer ready-made decorations done to your specifications, you can make your own without much hassle if you know what to do.
First, gather all the materials that you need. Start with a dried tree preferably a manzanita tree. Many stores offer different sizes and different finishes. So depending on the occasion and the area, you can get one that is 10″ – 12″ high or you can get something that is taller. A silver, white or gold finish is ideal for your crystal tree as it helps accentuate the crystals and the lights.
Next you need crystal beads to decorate your tree. There are numerous choices but there is a distinction when Swarovski crystals are used. However, the price can be a bit hefty. An alternative would be acrylic beads. Though they may not be as luxurious, they can do the job fairly well. Nylon string is also used to string the crystals or beads together. Another technique is to cut the string into shorter segments (6″ to a foot depending on the size of your tree) and hang them on the branches. This will resemble streaks of crystals falling from the branches. If you opt for this, make sure you cut it to the right length so the beads don’t touch the surface of the table or the base of your tree.
Putting on the light is less tedious than individually placing the lengths of crystal beads. White light is preferred as it is neutral and will let the natural shimmer of the crystals do the work. Wrap them around the main trunk and major branches. You do not need to have every branch adorned with lights as they are not the main attraction of the piece. Put them as close as possible to the tree and don’t worry about the possible shadows that it may cast. The beauty of the crystal tree lies with the interplay of the lights and shadows of the whole decoration. Another way to bring life to your crystal tree is to add small spot lights at the base of your tree. As it shines up towards your creation, it will add another dimension giving it more depth. However, don’t use too much light as it may be distracting. Moreover, you want some shimmer from the beads and not blinding light.
Accents can be incorporated into the design to match the event’s theme. But make sure that they do not overshadow the crystals in terms of attention. A memorable occasion is made even more special with the right decorations. Crystal trees can be the center of attraction or can be used to accentuate the focal point of your event. This summer, fashion accessories have gone to our heads, literally. Hair ornamentation is everywhere from jewelry encrusted headbands to sparkling butterflies to silky flowers- the sky’s the limit.
We tend to like the simpler approach to hair decoration like Hilary Swank’s diamond covered flower pin at this year’s Golden Globes. With that being said, we’re a little obsessed with Marc Jacobs giant faceted hair jewels. We know they are over the top…but how fun!

1. Keep the make-up simple. Let the hair jewel be the star. Nude make-up looks are perfect companions for these dynamic hair accessories.
2. Keep your outfit simple, too. Too much color or texture on top and bottom will make you look like a clown. Potentially a crazy fashion clown and that’s scary.
3. Pull your hair back. This is not a rule, but whether it’s messy-back, or polished-back…we think it’s a better look. Hair down with a large hair accessory can look a little bride’s maid…if you know what we mean.

Today the majority of embroidery that is found on items is made through computerization
rather than manually. The creation of items created through computerized embroidery
