call of nature可不是什麼大自然的呼喚,relieve oneself也不是放輕鬆一下,這兩個用語都是「上廁所」的文雅說法。
Could you excuse me for a minute? Nature calls.
可以容許我離開一下嗎?去個洗手間。
I need to relieve myself. Could you please wait here?
我需要去上廁所,請你在這裡等一下好嗎?
此外,如果聽到英美人士說:"I have to go."而沒有進一步解釋時,就別傻傻地追問:"Where are you going?"因為對方多半是表示「失陪一下」,要去上廁所,而非真的要離開。
其他關於「上廁所」的委婉說法,還有:
1.I'm going to use the bathroom/washroom/lavatory.
我要去用一下洗手間。
2.Please show me the men's/gent's room.
請告訴我男廁的位置。
3.Could you tell me where the women's/ladies' room is please?
