Introduction of the final artwork and Reflection:

This is my final artwork, made by two papers.

When I was doing the classwork (paper cut), I found out papers can be cut into half and thinner.
Some may leave a lighter colour, like the used paper of the final artwork (red to pink).
I wanted to develop an idea related to this method.
I tried to cut leaves but it does not mean so much to me.
Then I searched for animals, and I found out something about animal cruelty.

I think the act of tearing paper just like skinning.
Consider this issue, I decided to make an artwork reflecting on it.

Fur and feather were the common products on the market.
People need these because those products are considered durable and beautiful.
As some kinds of animal (such as wolves) were rare, products which made of their fur would be expensive.
Therefore, the furs also embody the personal status.
As the demands appear, those animals will be killed continuously.

I started with the bag made with snake’s skin.
Handbag is a kind of the luxury goods, it (a bag) also represents a concept of consumption.

A bag contains things inside. Could surprise people.
So I decided to make something different inside the bag and let people discover themselves.
Behind the surface of the bag, they will find a bloody and violent fact that always hid from the shop shelves.

I made the bag inside can be turned out.
I started with cutting rabbit, zebra and dog.
They are the animals that many people knew and considered friendly.
Indeed, I chose them because their skin (vein of fur) have different patterns.
I can put them into different parts of the bag according to them.

After that, I cut out snake and crocodile that people might not like them (because they can hurt people?
I was taught that they are dangerous since I was a child).
But they are still, same with the other animals, they can feel pain, be afraid and bleed.

Eventually, the animals have been treated differently.

During the cutting, I realized that I am not skilled in use of cutter and dealing with the paper yet.
At first, I would cut off the part that I was going to keep.
Yet, some mistakes have not ruined the picture.
After few animals has been cut out, I have tried the difficult part: cutting the snake and crocodile veins.
I have failed a few time (cutting off the needed part).
The worst part was I pressed too much on the paper and it has been cut through.
It affects the surface of the handbag, but it could lead people to find out what’s behind.

Every cut and tear made me think about how the people took the skin from the animals.
The red color reveals the violent and the bloody scene as well.

I was thinking... if people think this work is ‘beautiful’, they are really sick?
