直譯是「你不如叫海洋不要服從月亮。」

海洋潮汐受的正是月亮引力的影響，不受人力控制，人力也無從控制。

意譯是「這件事無法做到（，只是徙勞）」

for to 是 old English ，現今可以省去 for。

另一句雖然有點不合時宜，但也是精句︰

Frailty, thy name is woman.

直譯是「弱者，你的名字是女人 !」

兩句的字不怎麼深，讀起來卻深具節奏感。
