The Air Jordan XXX (30) debuted on January 14th, 2016 at an exclusive media event in Chicago. Heralded as the greatest performing Air Jordan yet, the XXX features a knit and woven upper highlighted by a unique toe cap and FlightSpeed chassis. Through an innovative reflective material never before used by Jordan, the Jumpman within the toe box is invisible at some angles and appears at others. Every time you put on a pair of Air Jordan XXXs, you hold the world between your fingers. Look closely and see MJ's North Carolina roots marked with a blue dot. The Air Jordan XXX's FlightSpeed system couples Nike Zoom Air technology with a moderator plate to provide first step supremacy and give you an explosive edge over the competition. The heel, signifying 30 is transformed into a basketball net. Michael's singular demand was to "Make it Look Fast," a request augmented by the "XXX" graphic that wraps the heel and extends through the forefoot.

An "XXX", signifying 30, transformed into a basketball net. Stars symbolized the athlete's otherworldly talents and planets orbiting the Jordan universe took on surfaces — elephant print or carbon fiber — related to innovations initiated by past Jordan models. Elaborating his drawing, with help of fellow designer Mark Smith, Hatfield broadened the Jordan narrative and formed the story of the Air Jordan XXX, one that references a storied yet timeless lineage with an eye towards the future.
