Model United Nation is an acadamic simulation worldwide. Basically, it bring students from all different countires together for a conference about current global events.
The Unique Selling Point of the event is to encourage student to research and represent another countries (not their own countries). They are encourage to bring the viewpoint of the country their represent to the discussion. The Venue is great, the MUN offere formal conference room in different place in the world. Student would also have the opportunites to travel around the world and learn more about culture and prespective.

However, as an IB student, I wonder the significant difference of the MUN and what we have been doing thoguh the program and those MYP years.
From primary school I was educated to have personal opinion meanwhile respect and take other's opinion into consideration.
I learnt current event from news, from LS classes in MYP and the hidden concept of knowing in TOK.
Why do an IB student would possibly enjoy the MUN and the extra workload from it? The presure is on at the first day of IB...CAS should not be gained in such hard and bored manner to me.

Another great advantage of MUN and probably the greatest advantage is that this is a HUGE social event and opportunity to know more friends in different culture.
I must admited that as we don't easily have a chance to work other different color people don't we? Unless you are in a multiculture school. I am not. I would be glad of this chance.
However, for me, the bored topic, formal manners, and long process (conference usually take 2 days) would turn my brain into sleeping mode (sort of)
Those topics, as mentioned, are current gloabally important and famous topic that often disscussed in class with teachers and with friends.
I wonder that talking such topics in formal language could let you make friends. There might be other social event supporting this would be better. Those places are great to find a partner oversea as well I guess.

For me it still make no sense if people join MUN and not aimed for friends and partner.
I guess this hidden assumption of me made me angry before.
envirSWAT? What it is meaningful in term of promotion but the environmental thing would not be easily sovled according to what I learn from SL Chemistry Option.
(wow knowledge are sometimes useful :))
anyway I start to hate MUN :P
