A book titled God from the Machine 分類: 未分類

WoW might exemplify that kind of post religious future. One of my daughters gave it to me for a present. We had played games as my two girls were growing up and this one really clicked for me. WoW acknowledges debts to buy wow gold Dungeons & Dragons and wow gold I link that back to the 1920s novel The Chessmen of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. When I was 12, I made a version of that which was a chess like game. So, in that sense, it goes all the way back with me in a very personal way. Professionally, as buy cheap wow gold a wow gold for sale sociologist, WoW presented a fascinating opportunity to study social interactions how people learn and cooperate in a buy wow gold safe virtual world. In 2006 I wow gold eu published a wow gold book titled God from the Machine based on 20 years of artificial intelligence research on how to write programs that formalise a theory of human religious cognition and religious belief. In that one, I have over 40,000 neural nets representing 40,000 people exchanging beliefs. They are analogous to the avatars in WoW at the level of computer programming. It was a three day conference about the convergence of the real and the virtual. In the main meetings we had 120 avatars researchers from all around the globe. I had the experience of being with a leading American researcher and a leading Danish researcher who met for the first time and went questing together. The question is, what real world? When you're looking for fundamental principles in sociology, you're looking for things that apply to humanity in general. But they always depend on the contingencies of the situation. There's not one real world there are just fragments of a real world. I've studied religious cults and I always say that cult is culture writ small. Cults were real world laboratories where I could watch the dynamics of belief, behaviour and ritual role playing over a short period of time. You see I start with such a simple thing as poor Catullus, my avatar, walking down the path and he has to do some magic and before long I'm in this big philosophical debate with myself about the meaning of real life. WoW's ability to touch upon these issues, if one chooses to see them, may be one of the reasons for its popularity.
