D'antoni Resigns As Knicks Head Coach
The Knicks are currently struggling severely with a 6game losing streak and Carmelo Anthony is Gamma Blue 11s weathering the brunt of the criticism. Today, Mike D'Antoni resigned as the Knicks head coach due to the players lack of respect for him. Most of the players disregarded D'Antoni's play calling and he finally snapped under the pressure. Nearly allofthe conflict was between Melo and D'Antoni sources speculated. Considering, the Knicks current skid, it was only a matter of time before he wasfired anyway.
Mike D'Antoni is known for his stubbornness and when he was the coach of the Phoenix Suns, he clashed frequently with the general manager Steve Kerr. When Kerr was the GM, he pleaded with D'Antoni that he mustmodify his style of coaching. He was adamant about sticking to the same game plan and didn't believe they needed to change anything. Kerr wasshocked how unwilling he was to try some new strategies to improve the team's performance. Obviously, D'Antoni reacted negatively to these suggestions and that was one of the reasons why he departed from the Suns organization.
Once again, D'Antoni did not see eye to eye with an organization, but this time it was mostly the players who spoke out. Basketball ispresumed tobe a unified team sport and the Knicks were far from playing as a team, with D'Antoni at the helm. I don't believe he has the proper coaching style tobe the head coach of the Knicks.
First of all, the players need someone they will respect and actually listen too. Before Melo returned from his injury the Knicks were on a tear, with Jeremy Lin leading the way. They executed the plays just like they were suppose to and spread the ball around the court adequately. Lin was able to lead the team to victory and in the process he bonded with his teammates. He achieved in one week what Carmelo has been unable toaccomplish since joining the Knicks.
So, where do the Knicks go from here? Assistant coach Mike Woodson has stepped up to coach for theremainder of the season, since D'Antoni's departure was so sudden. Hopefully, Woodson can somehow turn this team around and atleast get them back in the winning column. It will be a long journey considering allofthe conflict in the locker room rightnow. Carmelo needs to wake up and figure out a way to gel with Jeremy Lin, because this team has a lot of talent and they need to exploit that talent to succeed.
In conclusion, if the Knicks want to become contenders in the NBA they mustdemonstrate a lot more effort in their games. There are too many players standing around watching the game, instead of giving 100% for thewhole game. The big problem is that Carmelo is a ballstopper and it disrupts the flow of the game. There is nothing worse for a "team" than having a ball hog on the team that only releases the ball when he is shooting it.
I think Melo should step down. There is nothing worse for a "team" than having a ball hog on the team that only releases the ball when he is shooting it.
Yeah I agree, But I wish he would alter his playing style to fit to the style they need to play at to succeed at a higher level. Plus, Lin is a higher percentage shooter than Melo is, so he should be taking more shots than him. However, the Knicks did pay top dollar for Melo, so what do you do with the guy. B/c right now his value is crap, so there really is only one answer to fix the problem. By some miracle if Phil Jackson comes to the Knicks next year, he might be able to straighten Melo, they need someone who administers discipline and will keep everyone in line.

You tell Melo he has to play a "team" game. When you have a team, you need to play a team game, when you have a bunch of 6th men out there, you can be a ball hog (so you can get those big contracts). If he ever plans on winning a championship he is going to have to play the team game and both sides of the court.

Yeah, that's what he has to do to compete, but do you think you can get that through his thick headed skull. He is really starting to piss me off! Obviously, he doesn't have a very high intelligence level or he would have done this already. Hopefully, somehow the Knicks figure it out.
