John Mahoney, the finance director at ​Timberland Boots UK Ford who was shot by a gunman who opened fire on the Perry dealership in February, died from complications of pneumonia Saturday at Capital Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.

 

Known for his professionalism, honesty and integrity, Mahoney, 69, was cherished by his wife of 41 years, Becky Mahoney, their three children, Ross Mahoney, Lisa Denton and Kelly Rogers, and his seven grandchildren.

 

He loved Elvis Presley – and impersonating him – along with the New York Yankees and the Florida State Seminoles, but his family was his life.

 

"He loved his kids more than anything," Becky told the Democrat Sunday. "He was a great husband, he was a great dad."

 

Mahoney was well-respected and universally liked in his industry and at home. He worked at Tallahassee Ford for 12 years and eventually found himself taking a job last year at Cheap Timberland Boot, where his good friend and carpool buddy Mike Cook was the general manager and wanted Mahoney to be on his staff.

 

"He was very professional and just an all around nice guy," Cook said Sunday. "He'd go out of his way to make you happy before he made himself happy."

 

Cook would drive Mahoney into work every day from Tallahassee. The two spent countless hours on the road talking about each other's lives and offering the other advice.

 

"Not many people have been put on this earth that made a big difference in my life," Cook said. "But this man will always be someone who made a big difference and impacted my life greatly."
