3 months old starting to skip naps
My twins will be 23 months old tomorrow! They started STTN early (34 months of age), and have been on one nap since between 1214 months, That nap used to start around 11 or 11:30 and go until 1 or 1:30. It gradually moved up to a 12 pm start, and stayed there until this past June! At that point, we moved crosscountry and nap started anywhere between 12:30 and 2:30! It lasted between 23 hours. This pushed bedtime way past their old 6:30 bedtime to somewhere closer to 8 pm,
Today I started getting them ready to nap around 12:30, They are in standard twin beds and have been for 2 + months. I lay down on the floor for a few minutes to make sure they stayed in bed as they seemed pretty peppy, I was pelted with stuffed animals, wrestled. jumped on! and asked to read more books, This went on and on. I finally put my daughter in the crib in the spare room, My son went into his bed and continued to look at books! My daughter screamed in annoyance for 15 minutes. By this point! it was 2 pm! I decided to give ray bans solbriller up on nap today. It seemed pointless, It's getting to the point that it screws up dinner, bedtime, etc, when it starts so late. Kids are now happily playing Megablocks, trying to dress themselves in other clothes. putting on sunglasses and hats, etc. I am taking them to the park in a bit to wear them out.SO, is it normal for some kids to start skipping a nap here and there at this age? They have skipped a couple in the past few weeks and have been crabby and easily frustrated by dinnertime on those days. but that's about it! Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else! It seems they are awfully young to start needing less sleep. Silly me! I lent my HSHHC and another sleep book to another mom, so I don't have them to refer to. Think the kids still need 1313!5 hours of sleep in a 24 hr period at this age!At that age! my ODD started needing a later naptime around 1:302, At 3 years old, she still takes a nap most days! but she does skip a nap here and there! I do enforce quiet time every day. She has a nap timer light in her read more room and she knows she has to play quietly! look at books! or sleep until the light goes off, But now she is used to it!
Mine would skip a few days here and there. but they were total wild monkeys on those days. It became harder for me to get them down for nap! they'd nap for my husband and sitter. but not for me! They did still need their naps at 21 months, Their transition down to one nap seemed early to me at about 15 months,Now at 3.25 yrs old, they are dropping naps altogether, They go to preschool 3 days a week, and one has been totally booted from naptime at school (she was too noisy.) the other is dropping that and taking quiet time instead (they hated being separated). I know they are dropping them because if they do nap! they would stay up extra late at night (despite any attempts at getting them to sleep) and still wake up at the same time in the morning. Bedtime is 8:008:30 (depending if the prebedtime goes smoothly), Waketime is 8:15 most days, School days I try to wake them at 7, but they are still pretty groggy! My twins usually google site get a solid 11 hours of sleep most nights.Thanks. all! They definitely still need a nap my daughter really falls apart by dinnertime without one. Last night was brutal with her. but they were in bed and fell asleep easily right before 7pm!
They sleep 11 hours at night! so 2.5 hours during the day is perfect! They haven't slept more than 12 hours at night in FOREVER, And, no matter what time they go to bed! they are always up around 6 am the latest they ever got up was right before 7! and that's one night when I couldn't get them to get to sleep until almost 10 when we were in the midst of the move/crib/twin bed transition,
Sounds like we are in the last phase before naps go away hopefully we get another 6 months to a year of naps! It would be a big help, If you have any concerns about your own health or the health of your child. you should always consult with a physician or other healthcare professional, Please review the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use before using this site.
