Katherine Mansfield short story The Fly is taken from the series 'Dove Nest' and influenced by her beloved brother Leslie death, it's one of her finest short stories. It is one old thing in all that is not old. It hides a solution. It is a story of pain the manager wants to prevent. So he does not bring focus on the image. But Mansfield means of breaking the looks has started. She does it through Woodifield. The latter tries to remember anything. The Boss feels sympathy for him. This is ironical. We question who wants sympathy. However the Employer generates a whisky to Woodifield glee. However the whisky reveals a series of agony for Chef and quickly the positions are changed. Woodifield starts talking about the Supervisor? son's plot as well as Reggie plot nearby. Woodifield's children had gone to Belgium and spotted it. The Employer makes no reply but only a quiver in his eyelid confirmed that he heard. Here is the beginning of the process of withdrawal of emotion. Without knowing what he said the manager responds. The distinction in people is clear. Woodifield had accepted his child death and could talk freely about this. But it hurt the Manager to actually consider it. In reality he's a figure of waste. It was a hidden sorrow in his head. Next Woodifield leaves. The reference to Reggie grave was a surprise for the Manager. For six years the Employer had suppressed sadness in his head. He'd never looked at the child dead in his uniform, sleeping peacefully. Now at the reference to his daughter grave, that was truth he tried to cry but he could not cry. It's widespread in Mansfield reports that figures arrive at the edge of holes but don't break down. She avoids sentiments. The Employer willing to weep but could not weep. In the initial years the Boss applied to break down considering his son. He'd believed then his comments wouldn't change. He had considered herself a lot more hurt than others by his son death. He'd worked all his life building up his son his organization. Life was meaningless without him. Often they'd walked together. He had been loved by the office staff and he wasn't spoilt. But one telegram carrying the news of his child death had crashed his world. All of this Mansfield narrates to bring out the detail of hurt in Supervisor and the strength of his loss. It helps us understand the Boss?emotions. But after six years he could not recall his thoughts. This was causing him further pain.

Now a fly comes into the inkpot facing the Chef. It clambered out. But then the Supervisor had a notion. He dropped ink within the fly and found it struggle. He admired the bug pick. Maybe his daughter too had struggled that way about the battlefield. Another drop dropped on the fly. His son had not escaped death. The Employer becomes God here. He will not allow fly live. The travel dead to the blotting paper. Then a Supervisor realizes the loss. It had been the loss of his son. In agony he asks for new blotting paper. He couldn't remember what he was considering. He's reduced for the state of Woodifield. It is a highly complex mind that we encounter. It is left to the audience creativity to read what he's thinking. The Chef emerges like a pitiable character having a wound nobody can recover office executive chair.
