that is the first time i wrote so many words in english.
extremely tired because i spent only 7 hours to finish this essay, from 00:00am to 07:00am.
the biggest problem is i had class in the next day at 8:30am. so sleeply all day.......
below is my essay, let's take a look.
Napoleon has ever said: “leadership is the capacity which can turns dream into actuality.” The 34th president of America - Dwight Eisenhower has ever said: “Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because he wants to do it.” In my own words, leadership is organizing a group of people to achieve a common goal happily. Here, “happy” is the most important. Do you have experience that when you doing something you are very interested in and you are very happy to do that, you will forget the time and never felt tired. Can you
imagine that a leader leading a group of people dealing some problems happily, I don’t think there exist any problem can defeat them.
I have many work experience. All of my boss have one thing in common. That is we employees do not like them. We may smiles in front of them but scold them in behind. I have never had a happy job because all of my bosses care only the surplus, not us. But they pay salary to me, I have to work for them even I don’t like them and the job. How thing goes well if the leader and the people he lead have such a bad relationship. So, leadership is not waving the authority in hands, but authorizing others to do, having a good relationship with the people you lead is also important.
What is leader, American educator John Erskine said: “In simplest terms, a leader is one who knows where he wants to go, and gets up, and goes.” If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall in the ditch. That means: not everyone can be the leader. Leader must have some special characteristics that are different from the others, especially
an excellent leader. In my opinions:
1.An excellent leader is enthusiastic about their work or cause. People will respond more openly to a person of passion and dedication. Leaders need to be able to be a source of inspiration, and be a motivator towards the required action or cause.
2.An excellent leader is confident. In their eyes, no matter how big is the problem, they are able to solve it. Nothing is impossible, nothing can defeat them. Such a person inspires confidence in others and draws out the trust and best efforts of the team to complete the task well.
3.Excellent leaders are tolerant of ambiguity and remain calm, composed and steadfast to the main purpose. Storms, emotions, and crises come and go and an excellent leader takes these as part of the journey and keeps a cool head.
4.An excellent leader is committed to excellence. Second best does not lead to success. The excellent leader not only maintains high standards, but also is proactive in raising the bar in order to achieve excellence in all areas.
5.An excellent leader has many leading experience. They never only talking on paper, they always turn theory into action.
6.An excellent leader also has some power that you can recognize them easily among a group of people. That is cal l momentum in Chinese.
That is what I expect to see from an excellent leader.
When I was a primary school student. The person inspired me the most is my monitor. He was my friends, but we were different. He was excellent in every area. No matter academic skill, social skill or leadership skill. So I set him to my target, I want to become a man like him. He also taught me a lot. He impressed me the most is make me active. In primary school, I always hided myself in corner and seldom talked with others. But he told me I shouldn’t do that, communication is very important to human. Finally, I became talkative and find happiness in it. The last year in primary school, I even became the monitor and using the method he taught to manage the class. That is my initial leadership experience.
I have a part-time job. That is a waiter in Wynn Macau. But I am not an ordinary waiter. I am a section leader. When there is a banquet. I will manage about 6 tables. When the function is progressing, I have to make sure those 6 tables operate fluently.
I always go to work earlier and leave later than others. Because I have to help to set up the stage and do some computer job after work. Such as insert some data into computer. I have to know the detail of the function very well, since some guests or other part-time waiters ask me questions, I can give them answer immediately. At the beginning of the function. We will have a briefing about the function this day. Sometimes I would be the one to presentation. I tell them what the function about and what they should do. It’s very important for me to explain it clearly. Since there are many accidents, I have to calm down all the time. Such as someone pour some drink to the guest. I have to handle such situation properly. I am friendly after work and serious when I was working. I think if you are not serious enough, people may not follow your order.
I remember one time, both of the waiters follow me was fresh man. They didn’t know what to do and just stood there. I felt afraid at first, but after one second, I told them what to do and luckily they understood very fast and no accident happen this day.
I can understand things very fast. Especially some logical problem. I can sleep all the semester and spend only one day to review what I miss to learn in the class. Magically, I always get a good mark. When I was a secondary school student. I was always the best student in the class. Compare with other best student in another class. The only difference of us is all of them wear a pair of glasses. One of the reasons I think is: I learn things very fast and leave more time for my eyes to relax. I think that strength support me to be a good leader, because a good leader must have a lot of knowledge. In my leading, if I meet some area which I am not familiar with. I can learn it very fast and solve the problem as soon as possible. Another strength of mine is my EQ is quite high, no matter how big the disaster I meet, I can ignore it after a sleep. I have never felt sad over two days. Being a leader may have many problems. If you always feel nervous about these problems, your feeling will influence the people you lead. Good leader should calm down and find the solution with your partners.
I feel very uncomfortable when I stay with a group of strange persons. I don’t know how to start to chat with them and hold the conversation longer. So it makes me lose many opportunities to make new friends. People may think I am quiet when they just know me. But once we become good friends. They may think I am talkative. Actually, I am not shy at all. I think I am a slow couch person and need time to warm up when I meet new friends.
I always procrastinate tasks until the deadline. I think that is not good to a leader, because sometimes may occur some accident so that I cannot finish the task on time.
I think one of the areas that I need to improve is my social skill. I need to learn how to start a conversation and make it longer. I need to learn how to feel comfortable with stranger and create some opportunities to meet stranger. I also need to learn how to find common topic among people I talk to.
Another area I need to improve is my English, because I often meet some foreign people. I am reticent because I don’t know how to talk with them. Actually, I have many words in my mind. But I just don’t know how to translate it into English.
In order to be a better leader, first of all, I have to improve my English skill. One action I plan to facilitate such improvement is to learn English every day. Maybe I will read some English text, maybe I will recite vocabulary. Maybe I will watch English movie and learn every sentences in the movie. Anyway, non-stop touching English every day. Another action I am going to take is to make a timetable and follow it strictly. When there is a assignment or task, I will finish it as soon as possible.
Being a leader is not an easy thing, I have to keep learning and improving my leadership skill.
