| The first scouts were men sent out ahead of an army to spy on the enemy.In the Wild West of North America they went ahead of wagon trains and cattle drives to warn American Indians on the warpath,Scouts had to see but not be seen.They had to know how to find their way over vast prairies,or through forests.They had to be able to look after themselves in every way.They knew how to trap animals for food,they knew how to find their way by landmark,the Sun,and the stars.
