| Spirit, not Salary for World Cup |

The universal festival for soccer fans is being celebrated in South Africa with 32 teams from different continents while Chinese fans helplessly find themselves an only role to play: onlooker.
But we still have something to be proud of, for example: the footballs for the World Cup are “Made in China”, so are those buzzing, annoying vuvuzelas---flute-like trumpets played by the local audience that almost deafen the footballer as well as the players themselves.
Some Chinese journalists were robbed by the local Africans, and some female journalists were reported to have carried condoms with them in a sad, heroic way against AIDS as the destination country is well-known for its high rates both for HIV and rape. So being an onlooker is not an easy job, either.
What makes Chinese fans more uneasy is the fact that both South and North Koreas, our peninsula neighbours, play in the match, which undoubtedly raises such a question, why not China?
The former is rich, but latter is rather poor. It is said that the footballer from the North who scored the only goal against Brazil has a very low salary, only 12 RMB per month, but he and his teammates are high in spirits.
That’s why some fans and columnists exclaimed: Chinese players should learn from DPR Koreans players because what they are only short of is “high spirits”, not girls, money or comfort.
It is an open secret that many Chinese footballers are obsessed with alcohol, girls and Mahjong even with the important game approaching. It was reported and also a friend told me that the night before the match during the Beijing Olympic Games in Qinhuangdao, some players slept in their hotel rooms with the girls they had taken from Beijing. They have no slightest sense of mission and country. What a shame!
Later there was a crackdown on the “Match gambling” that resulted in a number of arrests of the officials as well as players. Then the same Chinese football team won the South Koreans, French and so on, something unimaginable.
What is functioning? A sense of crisis.
If you don’t play honestly, you’ll end up in prison!
As an onlooker, it is easy for us to find the answer now: it is the spirit not salary that prescribes the cure for Chinese team, and there is also an alterative for some: jump or jail?
