I am writing to bring the public attention that there are more and more elderly fall into the scams and frauds. According to recent statistics, the number of victim has escalated from 30 in 2005 to 725 last year. The case of elderly ‘s frauds clearly cast light on the worsening trend.

It is believed that the elderly are in all likelihood to lack suitable judgment. For example, my neighbor , Mr Chan is a 63 years old , one of the victim fall into the
Scams.. he mentioned that when he was going back to home after taking money from bank. , a man talked to him directly , claimed that he had some foreign currency, which was precious and below Japan .. Under this scenario, a man requested the old man to exchange the local money with him. Unfortunately, the old man is too greedy, therefore, he promised to exchange $5000 with that guy. Afterward, the elderly asked for the value of these currency, found that these was delivered in past and used during Second world war only, which have been abolished long time. The core message is that the guy of criminals utilize the ignorance of the elderly to trick them.

Lt can not be denied that a lot of elderly are superstitious. For the sake of having happy family or considerable income, they will try any method. Unfortunately, there were some cases what about the Chinese medicine. Ms Wong, who fall into scam and came out into the open that she was trick by a gang of criminals. Retrospectively, when she took a walk in park, encountered a man who disguised like a monk and told her that he had some useful medicine and incantation, which used to mix a cup of soup. A good luck will accompanied by drinking this soup. Meantime, he claimed that many people are finding these and described some successful case. the victim seem to be hesitant for making decision, the guy laid much emphasize on the value of this product. As a result, the victim had been lured to buy a lot of incantations and medicines, which cost $8000.The crux of this case is that the elderly still insist the archaic view.

On ground of the seriousness of the situation, something must be done in older to prevent it from deteriorating.

My association has taken initiative to cope with the problem. Campaigns and talks have been held in an attempt to infuse old people with an appropriate concept of such scams, introducing some cheating methods what is popular in society. Lt is of paramount important to promote how to prevent such cases, in regard of that, counseling sessions and workshops have been launched with a view to providing tips and skills. Calling police if someone looks like criminals and asking the family member before the deal both are the effective measures.

True, many old people have become victim, represented the serious social crisis. Yet , the crux of the problem hinge on the lack of appropriate concept in scam and frauds. L am convinced that the problem can be solved so long as more promotion have done. Hence, ln lieu of turning a build eye to their problem, we should give them a helping hand when they are in need..
