Nowadays, love and romance can’t leave digital technology. The whole processes since people meet to merry are always using digital technology. When 2 people meet, they have a talk about their interest likes watching movie or playing games. Then they will exchange the phone number, Facebook. After home, they keep contact with WhatsApp or have a call. They may come out to watch a movie, play computer games together. Maybe they will buy flights to have a trip online. Take some photos with their phones or camera. Propose marriage with videos songs and surprise. Make the appointment registration online. Play the video and photos on their wedding. After merry, they may drive a car to everywhere.
In this ‘process’, communication is most important of love. Whatever they get together, holding the relationship or after merry, they need to communicate. For the most popular digital technology of communication in Hong Kong, WhatsApp is the famous one and success one. Almost everyone will download it if they have a smart phone. We use WhatsApp to replace SMS because it is free, useful and instant. Also we can talk to many people at the same time in a group, sharing video and voice chat too, and that’s what SMS haven’t. To use WhatsApp, all we need to have is a smartphone; a phone number and network connect. Nowadays, mostly phone plan include network connect and there are Wi-Fi anywhere, so if you have smartphone, you can use WhatsApp easily. That’s why WhatsApp become popular.
WhatsApp completely change our life. Before it came, we use SMS to find others, we date others by SMS or calls, every single SMS cost money. And we can only type 160 words in 1 SMS without emoji. No video, sounds, music, picture. After WhatsApp, we use it to chat others online, we send photo to lover if we think it is fun, less calls but more WhatsApp because it is free. We can send voice chat to lover with sweet message too. Those we can’t do it before. Chat in WhatsApp all the time, build up the relationship by phone are the new trend teenagers present their love and romance. Use a heart emoji or kiss emoji to present to replace ‘<3’ ‘-3-‘. Maybe send her (him) our photos for getting a closer relationship. Everything change more convenience and fast for communicates.
For benefits, we can improve relationship very fast by keep sending WhatsApp few days, and it helps us to know each other more. We also can use more method (Emoji, video, voice) to communicate. That makes us getting closer.
But it may also come from bad things, WhatsApp speed up the process we know each other. But we may not clearly know how the girl (boy) is so fast. If we trust someone too fast, we may get cheat by others or getting lost. WhatsApp may let people just talk in the app and don’t know how to face others and the last on and seen function makes many lovers quarrel for guessing others too.(WhatsApp 傷感情, link 1)
In my own views, although WhatsApp may makes many problems, if we can communicate more, trust more, be careful and seems it only a way to contact, don’t let it affect our daily life and real communicate, it brings us convenience and it helps us know others well.
Also, there are some Apps for meeting friends or find love online. (lovestruck, hongkongcupid)As computer become so popular today, there are some websites and phone apps for finding some heterosexual to chat with you or date with you. For the use, you can enter your information for others to find and you can find someone who meet your target. If matching success, you may keep contact, exchange phone number or date out. For those people who need to work all the times, it is useful for them to meet new friends or lover. Also they can choose who they want to talk if they like, it save times from traditional matching face to face and they can have a larger ‘market’.
But for cons, all these are holding online, you don’t know their information is real or not, there are many lies, they may cheat you that their face, age or money(欺騙視覺效果, 13/3蘋果日報, link 2) Although you chat with someone few months and date out, it may not save too. They may fraud; sexual assault; theft and extortion, by 2013, there are 261 case of this kind scam. In my opinion, we can get benefit if we keep smart and claim, don’t easily trust others and we need to bring a friend when we date with online friends. If we just meet online friends, I think this is ok. If we want to find a lover from it, we must be careful.
