French designer Ora-Ïto has developed a concept Nike trainer inspired by the style of modernist furniture designers Charles and Ray Eames.

 

The shoe, with its curved wood over-lays is directly influenced by the Eames Lounge 670 armchair, designed for Herman Miller in 1956.

 

Ïto told Deezer: “The idea was to make a Nike Eames, like the Nike Air but playing with the Eames, translating the language and the forms and the aesthetic of the Eames armchair into a trainer.

 

"Their work is still very modern, I was at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile and it was the year of Charles and Ray Eames -  they were everywhere."

 

Ïto added: "Even if they're dead, they're still the most productive designers, which is quite funny."

 

The designer of the modernist shoe, made of dark-wooden panels and black Gore-Tex, said he will consider taking the idea to Nike.

 

It’s unclear how comfortable a wooden-panel shoe would be however.

 

On the shoe innovation front, Nike earlier this year said it would release trainers with self-tying laces as early as 2015.
