Amores Perros (Lit: Love's Dogs US: Love's a Bitch)
The first of the "Death Trilogy" by Mexican Director Alejandro González Iñárritu (Don't ask me to pronounce that).
The movie revolves around three different stories linked by a car accident.
Octavio and Susana is about a boy, Octavio, who fell in love with his sister-in-law, Susana.
Since marriage Susana's husband, a gangster, had been making life by robbery.
Never be gentle to his wife, he developed a tension between Octavio and himself.
This made Octavio determined to run away with Susana from his brother.
To raise money for that, Octavio got involved with the underground dog fighting business.
With his dog Cofi, he kept winning until Cofi was shot by his rival during a fight.
Enraged, Octavio stabbed his rival with a knife and escaped in his car.
In the chase, Octavio crashed into another car.
Daniel and Valeria tells the story of Valeria, a supermodel who had an affair with Daniel, a married magazine publisher.
After he left his family, Daniel bought a house and lived with Valeria.
However, when the couple had just started their new life, a car accident happened.
On the way home, Valeria's car collided with Octavio's.
Fatally injured, Valeria was able to recover miraculously, although her leg was permanently hurt.
Her life thus took a downfall, as she probably couldn't continue her career anymore.
Richie, her dog, became her only emotional dependence.
However, during he's playing with Valeria, Richie accidentally crawled into a crack on the floor and couldn't come up.
After Richie disappeared for days, Valeria became hysterical. It also jeopardized the relationship of the couple.
To search for Richie, Valeria stretched her legs, injuring herself again.
At the end, her right leg had to be removed from her, making her impossible to be a model again.
El Chivo and Maru started from the two guys who offer a job for the hitman El Chivo.
Chivo appeared to be a bum who feeds a group of dogs in his ghetto-like house.
Yet it is told later that he once had a family, and he tries to contact his daughter, Maru, throughout the film.
The job he was offered was stopped by the crash when he is ready to shoot.
Chivo saves Cofi from the wreckage and healed him.
Unfortunately, Chivo doesn't know Cofi is a fight dog.
When Chivo returns home from his job, he finds that all his dogs were killed by Cofi.
Heartbroken, Chivo gets a lift and decided not to finish the job.
Instead, he kidnaps the subject of the job and the offerer as well, and put them together, tied up.
Chivo leaves them with a gun, and then runs away with the money.
The film was present in a sad tone due to the fact that the characters took the same ill-fate as their dogs around them did.
In the three stories the dogs all got hurt as the movie went on (poor doggies~).
It's really a pain to watch the movie if you love dogs!
I like Gael García Bernal, who acted Octavio, also later in Motorcycle Diaries, the Science of Sleep. Good actor.
For the movie I think it was great, but it wasn't as good as I heard, maybe I didn't get it afterall.
